Ponencia: Teaching to strengthen trust between science and society
This session will explore the relationship between science and society and the pivotal role played by education. It will cover some of the key areas that are needed to help educators build trust between science and society; from the basics of the scientific method to the philosophical underpinnings of science and its part in affecting socio-economic development and systems of belief. The session will discuss how equipping learners with a knowledge of growing disciplines such as science communication and citizen science can serve as a platform to examine the historical impact that science has had on society as well as assessing the role that science may yet play in the future. Accomplishing this will help empower learners to identify responsible research and to propose models of science communication that promote cultures of sustainability and progress.
